Falling in love with women in ministry | National Catholic Reporter

I thank all the women whose example has led me to fall in love with the potential of women in ministry — despite the obstacles faced — because when young Catholic women like myself fall head over heels for the potential of women in ministry, we are falling in love with the promise of who God created us to be. We are falling in love with the potential for our own liberation. (Nicole Sotelo )

I’ve been experiencing a bit of a desert experience these past days. A persistent cold has drained me of energy, and a dry mind has drained me of ideas. Thank goodness for the bounty of online articles that continue to lift and inspire me. Nicole Sotelo has written a beautiful piece for the Young Voices column over at NCR.

She speaks of falling in love with ideas; specifically the idea of women in ministry. Women have attained the right to minister within some faith communities, but still struggle to achieve full and unconditional acceptance as leaders within the church. We can rightly celebrate the great distances that have been traveled in the journey towards women’s equality. But, there are still great distances to go.

It’s energizing to hear young voices speak with such passion about women in the church. Falling in love with the potential of women in ministry? Yes, indeed! Thank you, Nicole!
