The media blackout was probably a favor. Episcopal decisions since January have been discouraging. But to paraphrase Neil Postman, why not amuse one’s soul to death or at least to moral numbness. I can’t blame him after blessing a convention that was a three-day abortion rally in all but name. The gravity pull of Hollywood and Washington is taking its toll on institutional America in general. No wonder the Church in America has been silent on the coercive agape of German Catholicism.
